INTERVIEW: regional faves opening up to N/A!

…we posed the following six questions electronically to some of the regionally based groups & artists that we are jazzed about. Recorded below are their responses, thoughts, fears, etc…

#1 - without being too cliché, describe what sound you are trying to create (“cliché”, in this context, would be saying that you sound like what would happen if Michael Jackson made a record after he found out that Mick Jagger got caught sleeping with david bowie).

#2 - are you afraid to share your sounds for free over the internet? if so why, & if not, where do you, as an artist, draw the line on free music?

#3 - which is more important to the band – someone to put out your next record, or a loyal fan base to support you at shows?

#4 - what's your favorite radiohead record?

#5 - how much of your “life” ends up in the music that you create, or, do you rely on dreams & fantasies to draw up the inspiration for lyrics?

#6 - what bands are you jazzed about seeing live right now?

ARTIST: MILD WINTER ( harrisonburg , virginia )

#1 - Simply put Mild Winter is an indie-folk band driven by the violin. We all have different backgrounds in music and we attempt to blend them together, hopefully it works.

#2 - We love the internet! Our music is available online at www.mildwinter.com ,

www.myspace.com/mildwinter and www.virb.com/mildwinter .

#3 - We do enjoy selling our music but the bottom line is we would rather people have our music than not have it. We do try and keep our merch priced as low as possible in hopes that people are drawn to buy it. Clearly it doesn't matter who puts out our next record if you don't have any fans support.

#4 - Radiohead...I am not a good one to answer this question, Mel or Nik would do better, but I would say OK Computer???

#5 - It is a pretty good mix of real life experiences and made up ones. Melanie pulls from her life directly, working hard to make the lyrics meaningful. Sometimes masking the specific event with interesting lyrics. I like to create characters that are running away from feelings or themselves, and at the time I think they are completely made up stories and feelings. But, then when I step back and think about it, I was writing about myself and didn't even realize it.

#6 - It is hard to beat the Avett Brothers live, they have tons of energy. We also really enjoy the Extraordinaires, Donny Hue & the Colors, and the Everybodyfields.
