A Wanderer's Home
Mild Winter
Independent, 2008
Gordon B. Isnor
I have a hard time taking Mild Winter seriously as to my mind the vocalist sounds an awful lot like David Cross which inevitably conjures up some images of some ridiculous country music parody he might scheme up. Despite that unfortunate likeness - real or imagined solely by me, the band has a keen talent, combining 'whiskey-soaked' country-folk guitar songs with excellent fiddle playing that really sells the project to a first-time listener. Previous vocal issue considered, it's the female-sung songs like "18 Miles" that I find work best.
